FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is antimicrobial technology?
The Doctor Bag itself is made of antimicrobial mesh. Antimicrobial technology describes the procedures of using agents that kill microorganisms or inhibit their growth.

What does antimicrobial mean?
Products made with antimicrobial technology, such as The Doctor Bag, are designed to kill or slow the spread of microorganisms. Antimicrobial is used to describe the material that has the ability to limit the presence of microbes, such as bacteria and viruses.

What is the difference between antimicrobial and antibacterial?
Antimicrobial products are effective against a variety of microbes, such as bacteria, mold, fungi, and viruses, while antibacterial products are only effective against bacteria.

How does the antimicrobial agent work on The Doctor Bag?
The Doctor Bag uses an antimicrobial agent that is introduced to the bag material during the manufacturing process. This broad-spectrum efficacy agent affects the health of the microbe, inhibiting its growth and causing it to die. This built-in antimicrobial protection means bacteria and other microbes cannot survive on the bag, providing infection control. Our products have been independently tested and meet international standards AATCC 30. The first is safety. Antimicrobial material is weaved into the bag DURING the manufacturing process. Any microbe--bacteria, viruses, mold, and all others--that come into contact with the bag will be unable to grow and quickly die. The second is design. We understand the modern medical professional lifestyle because we are medical professionals.

How does The Doctor Bag work while traveling?
Luggage can come in contact with up to 80 million bacteria before you even set it down in your hotel room. Between baggage handlers, a member of the airline crew, the airport baggage delivery system, Uber drivers, and hotel staff, there are many opportunities for germs to jump on!

What antiviral properties are used on the antimicrobial mesh on The Doctor Bag?
The bag uses “Chitosan,” which is primarily derived from shellfish. Some materials, especially USA-made materials, use silver interwoven into the fabric material; however, this is a toxic material and not completely environmentally friendly. The use of Chitosan as our antimicrobial coating means our products are totally environmentally friendly, even when disposed of, unlike silver-based products. How effective are alcohol-free sanitizing wipes, such as TripWipes?
According to Dr. Summer Merritt, board certified in Family Medicine, a study from BYU published in The Journal of Hospital Infection found that a chemical known as benzalkonium chloride (BKC) reliably kills SARS-CoV-2. This is the key ingredient in TripWipes and why they are included in The Doctor Bag. BKC isn't toxic, doesn't burn and is not irritating to skin. Viral particles were neutralized in less than 30 seconds. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/3n4PkiU
